Zuni Fetish Carvers of the 1970s: A Bridge from Past to Present
This book covers the work of 36 artists who were prolific in the 1970s, including Lena Boone, Edna Leki, Sarah Leekya, Aaron and Thelma Sheche and members of the Quandelacy family. Each artist is accompanied by a short history and photos of their work from the period. Kent talked to the artists or their descendants about each piece shown to make sure that proper attribution was given for all of the carvings. A short introduction covers the historical setting of the jewelry-crazed 1970s, along with some of the traders of the period.
"In presenting this project, we pay tribute to those Zuni artists who kept an age-old tradition moving forward when it easily could have passed into history."
